Diagnostic Test
- DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC NOTE:
Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
NOTE:The scan tool, SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool), and DVOM are required to perform the following test.
- CHECK FOR SHORTED PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER
WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner connector.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and SRS Load Tool Jumper (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) to the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner connector.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
Does the scan tool display: B1B2F-1st ROW PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORTED TOGETHER?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner connector.
- CHECK THE (R56) PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSIONER LINE 1 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (R54) PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSIONER LINE 2 CIRCUIT Fig 2: Checking Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Line 1 Circuit For Short To Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Line 2 Circuit
Courtesy of CHRYSLER GROUP, LLCWARNING:Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and SRS Load Tool Jumper (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) from the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner connector.
- Disconnect the ORC connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the SRS Load Tool Adaptor (special tool #8443-25, 56 Way ACM Adapter) to the ORC C1 connector.
- Measure the resistance between the (R56) Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Line 1 circuit cavity 32-13 and the (R54) Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Line 2 circuit cavity 32-14 at the SRS Load Tool Adaptor (special tool #8443-25, 56 Way ACM Adapter).
Is the resistance below 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (R56) Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Line 1 circuit for a short to the (R54) Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Line 2 circuit.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with Service Information.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECKING STORED OR INTERMITTENT CODES NOTE:
Diagnose and repair all active codes before diagnosing stored codes.
- With the scan tool, record and erase all Airbag System Module DTCs.WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the related wiring and connectors for chaffed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires, and for broken, bent, pushed out, corroded, and contaminated terminals. Repair as necessary.
- Reconnect all disconnected components and harness connectors.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, monitor for active codes while performing the following:
- Wiggle the wiring harness and connectors of the related airbag circuit.
- Continue the test until either a code becomes active or the problem area is isolated.
- In the previous steps you have attempted to recreate the conditions responsible for setting the DTC in question / causing the intermittent condition.
Are any ACTIVE DTCs present?
Yes
- Select the appropriate diagnostic procedur. Refer to OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) - DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX
No
- No problem found at this time. Erase all codes before returning the vehicle to the customer.
- With the scan tool, record and erase all Airbag System Module DTCs.
