Diagnostic Test

  1. VERIFY ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    Make sure the battery is fully charged.

    NOTE:

    The scan tool, SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and DVOM are required to perform the following test.

    1. With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display B1C48-1ST ROW PASSENGER RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT HIGH DTC?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK FOR SHORTED PASSENGER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER

    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Disconnect the Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Pretensioner connector.
      NOTE:

      Check the connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

    2. Connect the SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and SRS Load Tool Jumper (special tool #8443-4, Jumpers, 2 Pin) to the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner connector.
      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    3. With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display B1C48-1ST ROW PASSENGER RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT HIGH DTC?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

  3. CHECK (R56) PASSENGER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR TENSIONER LINE 1 CIRCUIT AND (R54) PASSENGER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR TENSIONER LINE 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY

    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Disconnect the SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and SRS Load Tool Jumper (special tool #8443-4, Jumpers, 2 Pin) from the Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner connector.
    2. Disconnect the ORC connectors.
      NOTE:

      Check the connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

    3. Connect the SRS Load Tool Adaptor (special tool #8443-25, 56 Way ACM Adapter) to the ORC connectors.
    4. Measure the voltage of the (R56) Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner Line 1 circuit between the Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner connector cavity B and ground.
    5. Measure the voltage of the (R54) Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner Line 2 circuit between the Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner connector cavity A and ground.

      Is there any voltage present on either circuit?

      Yes 

      No 

      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      WARNING:

      If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
