Diagnostic Test
- VERIFY ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
Make sure the battery is fully charged.
NOTE:The scan tool, SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and DVOM are required to perform the following test.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
Does the scan tool display B1C4A-1ST ROW PASSENGER RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORTED TOGETHER DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to AIRBAG SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
- CHECK FOR SHORTED PASSENGER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR TENSIONER
WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner connector.NOTE:
Check the connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and SRS Load Tool Jumper (special tool #8443-4, Jumpers, 2 Pin) to the Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner connector.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
Does the scan tool display B1C4A-1ST ROW PASSENGER RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORTED TOGETHER DTC?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner connector.
- CHECK (R56) PASSENGER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR TENSIONER LINE 1 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO (R54) PASSENGER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR TENSIONER LINE 2 CIRCUIT Fig 2: Checking Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner Line 1 Circuit For A Short To Retractor Tensioner Line 2 Circuit

- Disconnect the SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and Jumper from the Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner connector.
- Disconnect the ORC connectors.NOTE:
Check the connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-25, 56 Way ACM Adapter) to the ORC connectors.
- Measure the resistance between the (R56) Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner Line 1 circuit cavity B and the (R54) Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner Line 2 circuit cavity A at the Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner connector.
Is the resistance below 10K Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (R56) Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner Line 1 circuit for a short to the (R54) Passenger Seat Belt Retractor Tensioner Line 2 circuit.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
